Core Functions

The Directorate is responsible for coordinating and supporting the following key functions:

Quality Assurance

  • Propose and develop a university Quality Assurance framework (policies, procedures and operational manuals) with particular reference to teaching and other activities pertaining to monitoring and self-assessment processes of academic programmes.
  • Review and evaluate quality assurance systems and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement in academic processes.
  • Conduct periodic internal reviews using internally and externally derived information data, including feedback from students and staff.
  • Oversee the implementation of recommendations from internal and external evaluations of academic programmes.
  • Offer advisories on quality issues to the various university organs on quality assurance matters.
  • Serve as the link between the university and Quality Assurance regulatory bodies, e.g. CUE and IUCEA.

ISO Educational Organizations Management System

  • Organize quality awareness programmes and staff capacity building.
  • Facilitate development and control of ISO 21001: Educational Organizations Management System documentation.
  • Coordinate implementation of ISO 21001: Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS).
  • Coordinate internal and external quality audits.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Liaise with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Quality Institute (NQI) and certification bodies.

Performance Contracting

  • Coordinate development, negotiation, vetting and signing of the University’s Performance Contracts.
  • Coordinate the cascading of Performance Contracts to lower University governance structures.
  • Monitor implementation of agreed performance targets.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual performance reports.
  • Coordinate performance evaluation processes and implementation of recommendations.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Education, Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSPMU) and other oversight agencies.

Strategic Planning

  • Coordinate development and implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Monitor achievement of strategic objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate preparation and review of Annual Work Plans.
  • Conduct strategic monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
  • Coordinate mid-term and end-term reviews of the Strategic Plan.
  • Promote alignment between university programmes, budgets and strategic priorities.
  • Liaise with the National Treasury and Economic Planning, State Department for Economic Planning and other oversight agencies.
